THE HARDEST PART OF WRITING A SHOW.....

...is the rewrites. This Saturday our show is called Murder At The Family Reunion and I am basing it on one of the more celebrated dysfunctional families in today's news. But the news changes every day, so to keep the show updated, the script changes every day. The last draft should be out by Friday. As Justice Brandeis said: "There is no great writing, only great rewriting."

WE MET WITH A NEW LOCATION LAST NIGHT....

....that wants us to do open to the public murder mystery shows there but it's in the same county that we already have a venue. Our contract with each venue gives them an exclusive:

"6. KK agrees not to engage in any other murder mystery, audience participation, interactive or dinner theatre performance in the following area: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX, (except for a private performance not advertised and open to the public), during the term of this agreement and for a period of at least 90 days thereafter without Client’s consent."

So what our our options? A new type of show? We're working on it.

OUR CASTS ARE BUSY WORKING....

And not just with us. A few days back, I asked everyone to send me what they are doing right now, acting wise, so I can promote it on our Facebook pages. I've been posting "one-a-day". And so far it seems only one of our casts has left the business.

LARGE CAST OR SMALL?

What is best? Well that depends on the type of show you want. If the event consists of real murder mystery fans who want plenty of action scenes, victims, suspects, etc. - then a large cast is best. If you are a small group though, a large cast can be overbearing so you may want to consider a medium size cast - or even a small cast. If the event is a fundraiser, a birthday/anniversary, or a business meeting, a smaller or medium size cast may be better because of the other activities that will take place. Budget may also be a concern, as may be the size of the venue. Because our shows are custom written, we have had very successful events with casts as small as 2 and as large as 11.

TRANSPORTING ACTORS

Sometimes, the longest part of doing a show is getting there. And in bad weather it can be the hardest part. During one storm, we drove under trees and through minor hurricanes and a 30 minute drive took 3 hours - we even showed up 10 minutes after show time. Which is why I try to arrange the quickest transportation possible. For this weekend, it's MetroNorth and I'll meet them at the station in my car.

OUR CAST LAST NIGHT...........

It was a spoof of Celebrity Rehab and our cast was Dr. Drew Minsky – Cindy Kostello/Model & Actress Rita D’Amato – Rori Nogee/ Comedian Randy Dick – Darin Chumbley/Judge Rudy Schindler – Bob Ader/Sgt. Dorsey - Jon Avner...and we changed the plot (one of the victims and the killer) just an hour before the audience arrived, so thank you cast!
