SCHEDULE OF SHOWS

I get many emails on this subject - where is the list of shows? True, it's not on the home page but there is a link to it on the bottom of the home page. And here it is too:

I will also be sending out, and listing here, the March press release tomorrow.

IT'S A MYSTERY?

A good portion of the plot of our show on February 19 was just revealed yesterday - 4 days after the performance of "Murder At The Oscars" at The Views At Mt. Fuji (which could have also been titled "Black Swan" meets "Oscar's New Co-Hosts" meets "Ricky Gervais At The Golden Globes".

Perhaps some of you read the headline and story in many of yesterday's papers: "Hosts: No 'Gervaising' at Oscars".

This has happened before: I write a show and the plot makes the headline a few days later and I am asked - how did you know this was going to happen? And the only answer I can give is one of my favorite lines from the film "Shakespeare In Love".........."It's a mystery".

And that's part of the reason why I enjoy writing a new show each time.

CASTING

Many times I get requests, even phone calls, from actors who want to perform with The Killing Kompany. This is from our website:

"Interested in working with us? We are looking for professional actors only! If you are a professional actor, we are looking for all types and ages to cast in our shows. We are especially interested in those professional actors with singing, improv, stage combat, comedy and any other special skills as well as actors with special uniforms. Look for our casting notices in BACKSTAGE and other casting services. You may also email us with a link to a site which has your P&R, Video Reel and Voice Reel - BUT DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES EMAIL IT AS OUR EMAIL SERVER CANNOT HANDLE LARGE ATTACHMENTS (And please no phone calls - we cannot return calls regarding casting). PLEASE ALSO NOTE: if you are currently working with another murder mystery company, please let them know that you are also submiting to us....it is OK that you work with other companies - you're actors - but some murder mystery companies get upset about this (we don't)."

REAL LIFE EVENTS IN MURDER MYSTERY SHOWS

So if anyone watched Sunday night's Bob Burgers on Fox, the diner decides to put on a murder mystery dinner show, to bad audience reviews, until a real life bandit comes in. Which made me remember some of the real life events that have taken place at some of our shows:

1. Of course, most recently, an engagement.

2. On the other hand, a couple splitting up.

3. An audience member being injured by kicking a table.

4. An audience member (or two, etc.) who had a little too much to drink (or something else) and you can imagine the rest.

5. An actor (or two, etc.) who changed the plot in the middle of the show by changing lines, not showing up, leaving the show, etc.

6. An audience member who decides to "tackle" the actor-killer.

7. An audience member who decides to "wrestle" with an actor-suspect.

8. A patron in another area of the venue hears our stage gunshots and calls the police.

9. The venue ran out of food.

10. And of course, the inevitable actor "hooking up" later with an audience member or a fellow cast member (to date, none of these relationships have ever worked out but they have led to interesting situations).

I am sure there are more. In the early days of The Killing Kompany, an actor Jeffrey Spolan would blog "The Killing Kompany Diary" and relate some of the more amusing stories of the shows. Some of these can still be found on the web.

SAFETY FIRST

By now, most people know about all the safety issues that the Broadway musical "Spiderman" has experienced. With The Killing Kompany, I strongly practice "Safety First", for the actors who may participate in an event, for the audience who attend an event, for the venue and waitstaff who sponsor the event. One thing I do is prepare a "Safety Message" that is given to all audience members as soon as they enter(this "Safety Message" also doubles as their ballot to vote on who may be the "Killer"). The "Safety Message" is also announced by me before the event takes place.

CONGRATULATIONS AARON & DORA

I have one more congratulations - to Aaron & Dora. As part of Act 2 of our show this weekend at Minerals Resort & Spa, Aaron proposed to Dora in front of 100 people....and she said "YES"! Of course, if she didn't, one of them might have been "murdered". So congratulations you two and thank you for making everyone a part of this special moment.

He won last night at Riccardo's at Astoria but I have a feeling there will be a few winners tonight at Minerals Resort & Spa in Vernon, NJ.

HOSTING A MURDER MYSTERY EVENT

Here's an interesting article that was sent to us recently:

How To Organise a Ticketed Public Murder Mystery Dinner

It is from the UK and there is one line from the article that I think is an absolute must:

"Hosting a successful murder mystery party requires good organisation, professionalism, a well-crafted script and professional actors."

Recently, I saw on TCM (they have their "31 Days of Oscar" schedule right now) a trailer for William Wyler's "The Heiress" which had several portions declaring - "What makes a great film? The cast, the director and the story!"
